Bambusa luteostriata is rare in cultivation in the United States. It is native to South Kalimantan Borneo. Leaves, especially new growth leaves, are strikingly variegated. During the growing season the variegation may fade.
This tropical bamboo is sensitive to frost and freezing weather but will is ground hardy if damaged by a hard freeze. It can thus be grown as freeze hardy perennial as the new growth is most attractive anyway. New growth might be 5 to 8 feet high in one season, if the bamboo does not freeze back, it can grow to 30 feet tall and 16 feet wide.
This rare bamboo was described by Elizabeth Widjaja in Reinwardtia, 11(2): 92 (1997).
